As a fertile educational resource for Greater New Orleans, the Botanical Garden at City Park is a unique venue for student learning. Here are the programs we offer during the school year.

Educational Tours: K through 8th Grade
Bring your class to the New Orleans Botanical Garden and discover the fun and educational experience of a natural science tour both you and your students will enjoy. Our knowledgeable tour guides will share interesting and amazing facts about the plants, animals and insects encountered on a stroll through our newly restored garden and the Conservatory featuring fossils, insects, and a tropical rainforest! In the event of bad weather, our tour leaders are prepared to share the wonders of the Botanical Garden with your students in an indoor setting.

Offered: Spring - March through May (Tuesday through Friday) and Fall - September through November (Tuesday through Friday) at 10 a.m. or 11 a.m. Cost is $3.00 per student and one chaperon per 8 students required and is free, additional chaperons are $3.00 each. Reservations are required.

The People and Plants Expedition for 4th and 5th Grade

This program offers 4^th and 5^th graders a cohesive series of hands-on learning experiences in science, math, language arts, and social studies that promotes individual and group inquiry.  For the Expedition, each student is a Guest Scientist and uses his/her own People and Plants Field Guide as the learning guide for exploring the Garden.

This Field Guide, full of activities, will help you interact with the garden and experience how humans and plants interact together and how they adapt to their environments.  Keep track of all your notes and observations as you explore the garden. Be on the lookout for a new discovery!

The Human Interaction with Plants Field Guide: Adaptation offers students a curriculum that promotes individual and group inquiry through an assortment of hands-on learning experiences.

The curriculum being offered in this Field Guide is based on Louisiana Grade Level Expectations (GLEs) for 4^th and 5^th  grades.  The program includes 37 GLEs for grade 4 and 25 GLEs for grade 5 across four content areas.  All GLEs are cross-referenced with the activities in the Teachers Edition of the Field Guide

Appropriate for a wide range of student abilities, the People and Plants Expedition teaches students through experience how to create a personal connection with the natural world.

Cost is $5.00 per student which includes a field guide for each student, teacher instructional field guide is free. One chaperon per 8 students is free additional chaperons $3.00 each. Reservations required.

The Benefits of Public Gardens: 9th Grade through College Students
This is a walk and talk tour with the New Orleans Botanical Garden Education Director discussing the importance of a botanical garden, an arboretum, and a city park to a community. We will look at the various exhibits, buildings, and gardens that are important for a public garden to educate, earn income or provide peace and tranquility. There will be an emphasis on the many career opportunities working in public gardens and green spaces along with the rewards and challenges.

This tour is 1 ½ hours. Reservations are required and the cost is $3.00 per person, class limit is 30 students per tour.

Independent Learning
Teachers can come out to the New Orleans Botanical Garden and use our facility as an outdoor classroom for writing, drawing, teaching about environments and plants. The cost is $3.00 per student, one chaperon per 8 students required and is free, additional chaperons are $3.00 each.  Reservations are required.

Note: We ask that all students respect the garden as a living museum with no running in the garden, climbing structures, walking in garden beds or picking flowers, leaves, or taking insects. We like to preserve our outdoor classroom for others to enjoy.

• All groups meet at the gift shop entrance of the New Orleans Botanical Garden on Victory Avenue.
• Payment can be made by check to NOBG and on the memo line please write school tours.
• Pay at the gift shop upon arrival.

If you need to cancel, please contact as soon as possible in order for us to contact groups on our waiting list.
Although no food or beverages are allowed in the botanical garden, shady picnic and playground areas are plentiful beneath City Park's majestic oaks.
