Education at the Garden

Growing Gardeners

Join us for a fabulous garden experience!

Growing Gardeners is our program for children ages six to nine who want to have some fun in our garden, and learn about—and play with—plants, food, and ecosystems! Classes are offered two Saturdays a month from 10:00 am till noon. During that time, we’ll:

  • Tend our Children’s Garden
  • Learn what it takes to be a real gardener
  • Play games
  • Make and try new foods
  • Go on scavenger hunts
  • Discover how people have used plants through history
  • Bring home fruits and veggies for dinner
  • Create garden art
  • Make plenty of new friends
  • And much more!

There’s so much to do in the Botanical Garden, and we would love to help your child do it all. Classes cost $15 each, but are $12 when you register for six classes (three months) at one time.

Young Adult Writer's Program

The Young Adult Writer's Program (or YAWP, to Whitman fans), is a chance for high school students to improve their creative writing skills in a group of peers, taught by a qualified guide. Through prompts, exercises, and peer review, writers get to know and express their own, unique voice.

Held on the first and third Thursday of each month during the school year, from 4:00-6:00 pm.
